Larger trucks and SUVs are everywhere in Houston, and they don't always fit (or come out clean) in an automatic wash. A spacious self-serve bay is the better option. Here's how to do it right.
Start with the dirtiest parts
Hit wheel wells, rocker panels and the lower half with tire & wheel cleaner and the high-pressure wand first. Knock off mud before the brush ever touches the truck.
Don't forget the bed
Rinse the bed from the cab toward the tailgate. Drop the tailgate and blast out debris that collects along the edges and drain holes.
Reaching the roof
Use the wand on the roof rather than climbing. Never stand on bumpers, tires or tailgates in a wet bay.
Work trucks and equipment grime
- Pre-rinse heavy mud before using the brush
- Rinse the brush often, since it collects grit fast on work trucks
- Pay attention to the grille, mirrors and running boards
Finish strong
Wax helps water and mud shed next time. Always finish with spot-free rinse. Then pull to the vacuums for the cab.
Lifted trucks and roof racks
Self-serve bays generally have more clearance than tunnels, and there's no conveyor track to worry about. If you're unsure about very tall vehicles or large accessories, look at the bay clearance before pulling in.
